Decompression Traction System (DTS) is a multi-positional traction based procedure that targets disocgenic patients. For many mechanical and discogenic syndromes, Chiropractic has been proven to be superior and more cost effective than physical therapy and or /medication. With the addition of DTS “decompression” therapy, we have been able to further improve our patient outcomes, reduce overall costs, and avoid patient discomfort and apprehensions common in disc patients.
DTS is a comfort-based multi-positional cyclic traction unit with several new advances. DTS has utilitarian characteristics including a non-slipping, circumferential harness system, retracting pelvic section, specific intermittent protocols and patient selection criteria. Knowing the avascular disc may be a predominate source of pain it is likely increased blood contact and cellular migration (as occurs during decompression) enhance its healing potential and reduce inflammation at its source. The decompression traction effects are more direct, less nebulous, and more controlled.
Recent study showed patient results of 219 patients who completed the therapy; 86% reported immediate resolution of symptoms, while 84% remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment. Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients, and remained intact in 89% of these patients 90 days after treatment. These studies shows that disc disease-the most common cause of back pain, which costs the American health care system more than 50 billion annually-can be cost-effectively treated using spinal decompression. The cost for successful non-surgical therapy is less than a tenth of that for surgery. These results show that the biotechnological advances of spinal decompression reveal promising results for the future of effective management of patients with disc herniation and degenerative disc diseases.
This nonsurgical treatment for herniated and degenerative spinal disc disease works on the affected spinal segment by significantly reducing intradiscal pressures. Chronic low back pain disability is the most expensive benign condition that is medically treated in industrial countries. It s also the number one cause of disability in persons under age 45. After 45, it is the third leading cause of disability. Disc disease costs the health care system more than 50 billion a year.
